The Making an Impact with Equality Acts project encourages concrete actions for increasing gender equality, and promotes the realization of women’s rights and gender equality in cooperation with different organizations and actors.
The Making an Impact with Equality Acts project advances the realization of women’s rights and gender equality. Our goal is for equality to be associated with action and concrete acts. In cooperation with a wide range of partners, the project implements various initiatives, campaigns, and events which advance and highlight equality work. In addition, actors are encouraged to carry out equality acts.
This project is coordinated by the National Council of Women of Finland and the Council for Gender Equality. The project is overseen by a high-level forum, whose members advance and promote the project and gender equality with their commitment and expertise. The project is funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture. It is also supported by various cooperation partners.
During 2020-2022, the project focuses on three central themes related to gender equality: women’s leadership, equality in media, and women and technology.
There are still fewer women than men in societal and economic leadership positions. The media plays a significant role in influencing societal views: around a third of all people appearing in Finnish media are women, and even less women are featured in expert roles. The portion of women in Finland enrolled in technology field studies is the smallest compared to other Nordic countries, and among the smallest of all OECD countries.
An equality act refers to a concrete action which increases gender equality. All organizations can participate in making equality acts. Equality acts have been carried out by businesses, cities, state institutions, civil society organizations, educational institutions, the media, as well as labor market organizations.
The planning, implementation, and funding of each equality act is the responsibility of the participant. The Making an Impact with Equality Acts project offers support and visibility, in addition to promotion of the equality acts.
