Yhdenvertaisesti säveltäen (Composing Equally) project of the Center for Educational Research and Academic Development in the Arts’ (CERADA) aims to positively influence the classical music composing field’s role and work distribution, attitudes, and conceptions. The goal of the research and development project is to mitigate the field’s gender-based professional differentiation, and to dismantle prevalent stereotypes related to composition. In the professional music field, composition appears as a particularly male-dominated branch. The gendered imbalance in composition is also apparent in the highest levels of education. The partners of the project include the Society of Finnish Composers, Music Finland, and the Sibelius Academy’s Composing and Music Theory subject group among others.
